Obituary – Yoshi K. Huggins
Yoshi K. Huggins
In August 1956 she married an American Army soldier, Horace Huggins of Blountstown. After having their first child, Michael, in Okinawa, they moved to the United States and had six more children in different states as Horace was stationed at different bases. They eventually settled down back in Blountstown to raise their family.
After their children were grown, they spent a small stint from 1989 to 1995 in South Korea and Okinawa when Horace worked as a civil service employee.
Yoshi was a homemaker all her life. She loved to cook and feed family and friends. She couldn’t read English, so she rarely used a recipe, but was a great cook and passed those skills on to her children. Yoshi loved to fish on the Big River, or wherever they happened to be biting. She was also passionate about her flower garden and fruit trees. She was up before dawn watering her flowers and tending to plants. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ.
Yoshi was preceded in death by her oldest son, Michael Huggins, and all of her siblings in Okinawa.
She is survived by her husband, Horace Huggins of Blountstown; sons, Curtis K. and Michelle of Altha, Horace Junior Huggins of Blountstown, Charles Nephi Huggins of Clarksville; daughters, Akiko “Coty” Stoutamire and Bill of Blue Creek, Matsu Bell Greene of Blountstown, Meiko Whitfield of Bristol; grandchildren, Sam (Dawn) Greene, Jon (Chasity) Greene, Morgan (Taylor) Huggins, Brandon (Madison) Huggins, Trenten Huggins, Rick (Terri) Stoutamire, Brandi (Chuck) McCranie, Hana (Toby) Williams, April Huggins, Stephanie (Tony) Barrington, Becky (Jeff) Balentine; a host of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Okinawa and the United States.
