Race raises over $3,000 for scholarships

Canete, Weyant win 11th

Annual Catfish Crawl 5K

BLOUNTSTOWN, FL – Hundreds descended on the Blountstown Greenway Trail for the 11th edition of the Catfish Crawl 5K & Kid’s Fun Run benefitting the BFD Scholarship Fund.
One hundred and fifty one runners, walkers and strollers put a toe to the start line for the 5K race.  Leonardo Canete topped the field with a blistering 17:27 finishing time!  “I spoke with Leo before the race” said Fire Chief/Race Director Ben Hall “and he said today would be an easy run since he WON the Vet Fest 5K in Tallahassee the day before!”  Indeed, Leonardo made it two wins in two days!
Stephanie Lines-Weyant of Tallahassee took the overall Women’s win by just three steps over 12-year-old Alexis Mayfield. “We have always strived to be a race open to expert and beginner runners and everyone in-between” said Hall “and we had participants from 8 months to over 80 years old!”
Chief Hall says preliminary numbers indicate they raised over $3,000 for their scholarship fund, which provides a graduating Blountstown High School Senior with a full scholarship to Chipola College Fire Academy.
