JACKSON COUNTY – The skeletal remains of two people found in a wooded area of Jacob City, a small community in Jackson County, have not been positively identified but are believed to be those of Stephon Gaines and Nicholas Hollis, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The two men were reported missing on Oct. 20, 2021.

Family members told the sheriff’s office that Gaines was last seen Oct. 19, 2021 at his home in Greenwood.   In a message posted on Facebook yesterday, a relative of Hollis said Saturday would have been his 29th birthday.

According to the website, Odd Murders & Mysteries, a “concerned friend” reported that everything but the men’s cell phones were at Gaines’ residence following their disappearance two years ago.  The two had plans the next day to go take pictures with friends.  When worried friends tried to contact them, their cell phones went straight to voicemail.

The website noted that 600,000 people go missing each year in the United States.

Anyone with information that would aid investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding their deaths is urged to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 482-9824.
