Franklin County crash leaves
one man in critical condition
EASTPOINT – A 23-year-old Eastpoint man riding an adult tricycle was critically injured when he was rear-ended by a pickup truck traveling behind him on US Hwy. 98 at Bay Street just after 6 a.m. today.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the bicyclist was eastbound in the eastbound lane when he was hit. The impact threw him from the bike. He landed on the south shoulder of US 98, just east of Bay Street.
The collision left the rear tires of the bike wedged under the front bumper of the pickup.
The driver of the truck, identified as a 62-year-old Apalachicola resident, was not injured.
The report noted that the bike rider was not wearing a helmet.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Franklin County Emergency Medical Services assisted FHP at the scene.
