CALHOUN COUNTY, FL – A Marianna man is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery after he ran a vehicle off the road at 4:29 a.m. Wednesday, then got out and attacked injured driver who had just been ejected, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Tony Charles Turner, 38, was driving east on SR 20 near NW Melvin New Grade Road in Calhoun County when he caught up with the second vehicle. He forced it off the road and onto a grassy shoulder, causing it to overturn several times.
The 52-year-old driver was thrown from the vehicle and sustained several injuries. Turner went to him and began punching him, knocking him unconscious. “Instead of rendering medical aid for the injured victim, he began hitting and punching the victim with a closed fist while he was unable to defend himself,” according the the FHP report. The injured man was taken by helicopter to a trauma center.
A woman riding with the second man – who was identified as Turner’s estranged wife, 38 – escaped with minor injuries. According to FHP, a temporary no contact order had been issued by the Jackson County Courthouse for the couple, who had previously resided together in Marianna.
Turner will be extradited to the Calhoun County Jail.
