BLOUNTSTOWN – Two men have been  charged with the March 8 armed robbery of Mozelle’s Liquors on CR 69 North.

Cody Wylder Crum, 22, was identified as one of the suspects last week. He was picked up March 15 at his home in Havana.  Just one day before the robbery, Crum was released from the Gadsden County Jail following his arrest there for drug possession.

Logan Thomas McKinnie, 25, of Altha, was charged with principal to armed robbery and accessory after the fact to armed robbery.

Law enforcement officers responded to the scene after the store clerk called to report the robbery at 1:29 p.m. and described the suspect as a white male, dressed in black with a bandana tied over his face, who threatened her at

gunpoint.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators, along with  K9 units from the prison, responded immediately.  With the assistance of Blountstown Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol, a perimeter was quickly established and the search began for the suspects.  K9 tracking teams established a track that traveled southeast starting from the suspect’s shoes and led to Parrish Lake Road East.

According to a news release from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, security camera footage at the store showed that less than 10 minutes before the robbery, two white males drove into the parking lot in an older model Chevrolet Blazer.  The driver went into the store alone.  In less than a minute, he came out without making a purchase.  The video showed the passenger quickly removing his shirt.  The car then turned left onto Parrish Lake Road.

Around eight minutes later, a man is shown walking from behind the old Swampy Tonk Bar, continuing along the fence line and then going inside the store where he pointed a handgun at the clerk.  She handed over the money and he left with about $300 in cash, according to the news release.  The clerk noted that the robber took off so quickly, he left behind his Champion brand slide-in shoes on the ground just outside the store.

Investigators tracked down the car’s registered owner, which lead them to McKinnie.  He was taken into custody and confessed to driving the car.

Crum fled when deputies arrived at his mother’s home on  Moccasin Circle to take him into custody, leaving behind the pair of slide shoes he was wearing –  just as the suspect did at the liquor store during last week’s robbery.   Deputies caught up with him and took him into custody.

Crum’s mother told deputies she had seen the photo posted online of the shoe left behind at the crime scene and told them it was hers.
