Solar site construction in Calhoun County

FPL marks the start of summer with
construction of 3 solar energy centers
in Calhoun and Walton counties

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is simultaneously constructing three new solar energy centers in Calhoun and Walton counties. These three new solar sites are part of six total new solar energy centers under construction in the Northwest Florida region. The following solar sites are currently under construction:

• FPL Four Mile Creek Solar Energy Center – Calhoun County

• FPL Pecan Tree Solar Energy Center – Walton County

• FPL Wild Quail Creek Solar Energy Center – Walton County

Once operational, FPL Four Mile Creek Solar Energy Center will be the fourth FPL solar site in Calhoun County.  FPL Pecan Tree and FPL Wild Quail will bring Walton County’s total to three FPL solar sites. The new solar sites will support the FPL Solar Together Program which happens to be the nation’s largest community solar program that provides voluntary FPL subscribers the ability to lower their electric bills with credits that increase over time based on the solar power generated at FPL Solar Together sites.

Each solar energy center will bring approximately 200 jobs to its respective community during peak construction. In addition to workers bringing a boost to these local economies by using their goods and services, each individual solar energy center will pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to the respective local government tax base that can be used toward essential services, infrastructure and schools.

FPL Northwest Vice President and General Manager J.T. Young says, “This is an exciting time for our customers in Northwest Florida. When these three new sites are completed in Walton and Calhoun counties, we will have ten solar energy centers in Northwest Florida supporting the FPL Solar Together program, which is now available to customers in Northwest Florida. We’re continuing to grow our community solar program, which helps subscribing customers lower their electric bills over time. Solar energy is the most cost-effective source of power generation the company can invest in today.”

Customers who are interested in reducing their energy bill over time through voluntarily participating in community solar can learn more at FPL.com/SolarTogether. Benefits of this program include the ability to participate whether you rent or own your home or business, no up-front investment, no solar panels installed on your roof and you can take your subscription if you relocate within the FPL service area.in
