Language Winners

MARIANNA—Students from local area high schools recently competed in writing, reading, speech, oral interpretation, literature, humanities, grammar, and Spanish contests at Chipola College on Feb. 9.
The occasion was the Thirty-fourth Annual Throssell Literature/Language Festival hosted by Chipola’s Letters Department. The purpose of the festival is to recognize and encourage academic excellence.
Prizes were awarded to first, second and third places, as well as two honorable mentions, in each category. The winner of the President’s Reading Contest received a special medallion as well as a cash award.
Contest winners from participating schools are listed below.
      President’s Reading Award—Megan Hill and Kayelyn Franklin of Liberty County High School.
      Writing: first—Levi Marsh of Bethlehem High School; second—Kimberly Ballarta of Liberty County High School; third—Safire Holmes of Malone High School; honorable mentions—Chloe Harrison of Marianna High School and Logan Cook of Holmes County High School.
      Speech: first—Joseph Smith of Sneads High School; second—Cait Taylor of Chipley High School; third—Slade Buckalew of Cottondale High School; honorable mentions—Allora Jones of Marianna High School and Madison Walker of Liberty County High School.
      Oral Interpretation: first—Hunter Cadwell of Marianna High School; second—Peyton Purvis of Marianna High School; third—Lizzie Kern of Liberty County High School; honorable mention—Jaylynn Ingle of Bethlehem High School and Leah Whitehead of Cottondale High School.
      Literature: first—Devin Tharp of Cottondale High School; second—LaRae Baxter of Malone High School; third—Angela DePalma of Holmes County High School; honorable mentions—Jerica Trammell of Bethlehem High School and Max Martin of Chipley High School.
