Man charged with leaving
scene after causing crash
that left two people injured
JACKSON COUNTY – A 30-year-old Marianna man was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injuries following a Sunday afternoon collision on CR 273 in Jackson County (Church Street).
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the driver was northbound in a pickup truck around 5:40 p.m. near Oakhill Drive when he rear-ended a slower moving vehicle traveling ahead of him.
The impact sent the second vehicle across the southbound lane and into the ditch on the west shoulder of the road, where it hit a tree. The crash left the driver of the SUV – identified as a 71-year-old woman from Marianna – with serious injuries. A seven-year-old boy traveling with her had minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
The pickup truck driver was found at a residence a short time later and taken into custody.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Jackson County Fire Rescue and Air Heart helicopter.
