HOSFORD – At least one home was destroyed and several others damaged when a tornado touched down in Hosford late this afternoon, according to Liberty County Emergency Management Director, Rhonda Lewis.

As of 5:30 p.m., the county remains under a severe thunderstorm watch.

“The tornado touched down on Chester Street, crossed over and went up to SR 20 to SR 65 North, toward Lowry,” Lewis said.

One person who was trapped inside their damaged home was rescued, she said. “They got out, and are OK,” she said, and added that as of 5:30 p.m., they are not aware of any serious injuries. “We have multiple power outages and lots of trees are down,” she said, explaining they are rerouting traffic around Blue Creek and Old Bristol Road.

All first responders, fire departments, and law enforcement officers have been sent to the scene, along with crews from DOT, Liberty County Road and Bridge, and C. W. Roberts.

The storm left many downed trees throughout Hosford.
The tornado tore apart numerous storage buildings, sheds and porches.
