Pedestrian killed after
being struck by two cars

COTTONDALE –Â A 40-year-old Cottondale man was killed after being struck by two vehicles as he attempted to walk across US 231 last night in Jackson County.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that both vehicles were southbound in the inside lane of US 231, near CR 169 – also known as Peanut Road – at 8 p.m. The first car was driven by a 25-year-old Marianna woman.  A 25-year-old Sylacauga, AL man was behind the wheel of the second vehicle that was following behind her.
Each driver was traveling with one passenger. All escaped injury.
The pedestrian walked into the roadway as the two cars were approaching, according to the FHP report. The first car collided with the pedestrian’s left side, knocking him to the ground.  He was then hit by the second vehicle. Both cars stopped on the west shoulder of the road. Emergency responders found the fatality lying in the inside southbound lane of US 231.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Fire Rescue, Cottondale Police Department and Cottondale Fire Dept. assisted FHP at the scene of the April 16 fatality.
