One dead, one critically
injured after Saturday
crash in Wakulla County
WAKULLA CO, FL – A 49-year-old Monticello man was killed and his passenger critically injured Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle drove into a pickup truck traveling ahead of them as it was making a left turn.
The motorcyclist was going east on US 98 at 6:59 p.m. when the pickup started to turn onto Spring Creek Highway.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist traveled into the westbound lane to pass the truck within the intersection and struck the side of the pickup. The impact ejected the pair from the motorcycle. Both landed in the westbound lane. The bike came to final rest on the westbound shoulder as the pickup driver came to a controlled stop in the intersection.
The Monticello man was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, identified as a 48-year-old Monticello woman, was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Neither was wearing a helmet.
The driver of the pickup was a 19-year-old male from Sopchoppy who was traveling with a 15-year-old Crawfordville girl. Both were wearing seatbelts and escaped injury.
FHP was assisted on the scene by the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office and Wakulla County Fire Rescue.
