The Kinard Volunteer Fire Department issued a 9 p.m. CT update on the fire that started at the Calhoun-Bay County line this afternoon, urging motorists to continue to avoid the area due to the closure of SR 20 from Clarksville to Hwy. 231.

The forest fire, now estimated to have covered between 75 to 100 acres,  is in a swampy area near Augie’s World RV Park. Firefighters will remain there tonight to continue monitoring the blaze.

The Fire Department noted that no structures had been damaged as of 9 p.m.

They are continuing to work with other area firefighters,  including the Mossy Pond VFD, as well as the Forestry Department and Calhoun County Emergency Management along with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, FHP and FWC in an effort to keep the blaze contained.
