Woman arrested after

high speed chase ends

with ramming CCSO

BRISTOL, FL – A Bay County driver traveling up to 120 mph sent vehicles swerving out of the way as she raced through Blountstown, across the Apalachicola River Bridge and into Bristol Sunday afternoon.

The 2014 four-door Hyundai Electra was spotted by a two Blountstown Police Officers and a Calhoun County deputy at 4:50 p.m. CT on Aug. 30 as it raced east down the median of SR 20, near SE Pear Street in Blountstown.

Remarkably, no one was injured despite the wayward driver speeding toward vehicles head-on as she cut in and out of Blountstown traffic.

The deputy pursued the car with lights and siren activated but the driver continued onto the bridge.  As they came into Bristol, a vehicle ahead of the Hyundai slowed down which gave the deputy a chance to pull up beside the speeding car.  The woman then turned and rammed the patrol vehicle before coming to a stop at the Bristol traffic light, which had turned red.  A Liberty County deputy was waiting at the intersection.

When deputies approached the vehicle with guns drawn, they found the driver, identified as Erin Feltman Christensen, 31, curled up into a ball on the seat.  When she refused to unlock the driver’s side door, deputies got in through the passenger’s side.

Christensen had to be forcibly removed from the car.  When a deputy grabbed her arm to pull her out, she began screaming.

After being cleared by EMS, she was taken to the Liberty County Jail.

She is charged with fleeing and eluding police, moving traffic violation with speeds of 100 mph or more, reckless driving, resisting arrest and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a vehicle.  Other charges may be pending.

FHP responded to work the collision where the car struck the patrol vehicle, damaging the front passenger-side panel.
