BLOUNTSTOWN – A 12-year-old Calhoun County boy remains hospitalized in stable condition after he was shot three times Friday night at his home on Adams Spears Lane, near the Pine Island community north of Blountstown.
The victim told Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Investigator John Scheetz that he heard the family’s dogs barking outside that evening and went to the front door to look outside but did not see anyone.
He then entered his bedroom and walked over to a window. Just as he reached up to pull the curtain aside to look out, three shots were fired at him through the glass. He was hit by three small caliber bullets; one went into the left side of his chest, one went into his abdomen and a third hit his arm.
The injured youth, who was bleeding badly, ran into his mother’s bedroom.
“We think it was a targeted situation,” said Calhoun County Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel. “We’re looking at an individual we think might be responsible,” he said and added, “There is no danger to the community.”
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Friday.
The boy was taken by emergency helicopter to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Doctors have not been able to remove the bullets.
While there were others present at the home that evening, no one saw the shooter, the sheriff said.
