LEROY JACKSON MOORE

BLOUNTSTOWN – LeRoy Jackson Moore, 96, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, in Blountstown. LeRoy was born in Colquitt County, GA. to the late John Newton and Ella Moore. LeRoy lived in Blountstown for 83 years and was a logger by trade.

In 1957, LeRoy uncovered a deadhead cypress log and this discovery was instrumental in introducing the market to deadhead cypress for Neal Land and Timber Company. LeRoy and his brothers continued to work for the timber company for many years. LeRoy was one of the last surviving logger generation.

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Moore; brothers Frank Moore, Walter Moore and Robert Lee Moore; one sister, Corine Bishop and Leroy’s beloved dog Bobo. Survivors include one son, Roy Lee Moore (Janice) of Blountstown and granddaughters, Mary Sue Moore (Chase) McClellan of Frink and Barbara Ann (Jason) Bodiford of Altha.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9 a.m. (CT) at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery in Blountstown with Jimmy Baggett officiating.

Charles McClellan Funeral Home in Quincy is in charge of arrangements.
