MICHAEL  G. CHMIELEWSKI

ALTHA – Michael G. Chmielewski,  retired United States Navy Petty Officer 1st Class,  passed away peacefully at this home on June 21, 2023.

Michael was born in Shreveport, LA on February 7, 1950 to the last Bolesaus (Bill) J. and Carolyn M. Trubey Chmielewski.

Michael served 23 years in the United States Navy with two tours of Vietnam. He was stationed in Brunswick, Maine for anti-submarine warfare; Bermuda and NAS Jacksonville as an aviation electrician working on the S2 and P3 aircraft along with being a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. He worked at NAS Cecil Field as an aviation electrician on other aircraft. He also served on the USS Independence, USS Saratoga, and the USS Forrestal.

He received several medals and honors during his career and retired from the military in August of 1992 Michael and Terri married in 1993 and moved to Altha where he worked as a salesman for Zambetti Steel, and then later for Parliament Steel. He was a preventive maintenance man for Rex Lumber until he retired in 2018.

Other than his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his grandson, Malcom (Keith) Chmielewski and his daughter-in-law, Alice Chmielewski.

Survivors include his wife, Terri, and his three children, Cyndi (Scott) Dawson; Michael Chmielewski II and Issac Chmielewski; his grandchildren, Chelsi Chmielewski (William Chafin), Isabella Dawson, Emily Dawson, Michael (Tripp) Chmielewski III; his great- grandchildren, Alexa Concepcion and Adeline Chafin; his sisters, Christina Chmielewski, Roxane Brown, Cassandra Giampa and his brother, Joseph Chmielewski.

A celebration of life for Michael will be held at 2 p.m. CT on August 24 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, located at 6974 NW CR 274 in Altha. All are invited to attend.
