Virgil Herndon
CLARKSVILLE – Virgil Herndon, 93 of Clarksville, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at his home.
Virgil was born in Clarksville on Oct. 25, 1929, to the late John and Trudie Herndon. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a forrester for International Paper Company. After retirement from the paper company, he enjoyed woodworking, farming and fishing.
Virgil is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, William Herndon, John B. Herndon, Mae Bell Bardley, Catherine Lassiter, Estelle Basford, Iona Tharp, Ruth Alford and Gwen Watford.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Hazel Herndon; his son, Mark Herndon and his wife Beth; his daughters, Sharon Walthers and Rita Whitt and her husband Robert; his grandchildren, Chase Walters, Holly Walters, Chris Herndon, Max Herndon, Stewart Herndon, Renea Green and Justin Faircloth; and his great-grandchildren, Carter Green, Sawyer Green, Bowen Faircloth and Chason Faircloth.
Services to honor Virgil’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 at Herndon Cemetery with Pastor Glenn Davis officiating. Interment will follow.
