SNEADS, FL – Dollie Mae Mercer, 90, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Sept.27, 2023, in Sneads. Born on Oct. 2, 1932, in Altha, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Trudie Fant.
Dollie was predeceased by her siblings, Robert, Edward, William, Eugene, Julia, Beneva, Carolyn, Lillian, and Karen.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Gene Mercer, and her loving children Juiett Wayne Melvin (Barbara), Randy Mercer, and Brenda Thigpen (Dr. J. B.). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Jared Melvin, Kristy Halley (John Michael), Kyle Mercer, McKayla Mercer, Clint Thigpen, Ben Thigpen, and Jay Thigpen, and her great-granddaughter, Kayla Edwards. Dollie is also survived by her sisters Jenny Stricker and Thelma Fant, the latter of whom she considered like a daughter.
Dollie dedicated her professional life to Florida State Hospital, where she retired as the kitchen supervisor. Her work was a testament to her loving, kind, and gentle nature. She was not only a hard worker but also a woman of faith, being a devoted member of the Circle Hill Baptist Church.
In her leisure time, Dollie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid fisher and a talented gardener, cultivating beautiful blooms that reflected her inner beauty. Her love for cooking was well-known, and her dishes were always a delight to her family and friends.
Dollie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to her work and faith. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Dollie’s Life will be held in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. CT with Dr. Juno Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Pope Cemetery in Sneads, Florida. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service starting at 10 a.m. CT.
