Motorcyclist killed in early
morning collision with deer
JACKSON COUNTY – A 63-year-old Greenwood man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday morning after a deer ran into his path.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling north on Shady Grove Road (CR 69A) and approaching the intersection of Harmonica Road at 5:09 a.m. when a deer crossed the road and was struck by his 2003 Honda motorcycle.
The deer also hit the driver, who was dislodged from his seat. Emergency workers arrived to find the man dead at the scene. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
FHP was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson County Fire and Rescue.

Quincy man dies after losing
control of vehicle in heavy rain
GADSDEN COUNTY – A 25-year-old Quincy man died after losing control of his vehicle during heavy rains early Saturday morning.
The driver was traveling eastbound on I-10 at Mile Marker 191 when he failed to slow down enough to maintain control of his car and began to hydroplane.
The vehicle made a sharp right off the interstate and began rotating as it slide sideways down an embankment toward a treelike.
The left side of the vehicle hit a large tree before going deeper into a wooded area when it came to final rest.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Gadsden EMS. The crash report noted that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
The outside eastbound lane was closed until troopers completed their investigation at the site.
FHP was assisted by Gadsden EMS and the Midway Fire Department.

Drivers escape with only minor injuries
after collision sends tractor-trailer
and SUV down steep embankment
GADSDEN COUNTY – Two drivers were lucky to leave the scene with only minor injuries after a tractor-trailer driven by a 41-year-old Miami man veered into the adjoining eastbound lane of I-10 and collided with an SUV, sending both off the road and down an embankment around 4 p.m. Friday.
A witness traveling behind the two vehicles reported that the right side of the tractor-trailer merged into the outside lane, striking the left side of the SUV, which was driven by a 56-year-old man from Ft. Walton Beach.
The impact pushed the SUV off the road, sending both vehicles down a deep embankment. The SUV began overturning onto its right side but then struck a concrete embankment, which turned it back upright.
The tractor-trailer went into the tree line, where the engine caught fire. The vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.
The crash happed at Mile Marker 184.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Gadsden EMS, along with the Quincy and Midway Fire Departments assisted FHP at the scene.

9:56 a.m. CENTRAL TIME: The Bay County Sheriff’s Office is currently working a vehicle fire on Hwy. 231 and West Linger Longer Road. The southbound lanes are currently shut down and will reopen shortly.
