CALHOUN COUNTY, FL – A 48-year-old Marianna woman sustained serious injuries Saturday when her truck ran off Scotts Ferry Bridge and dropped 50 feet onto the banks of the Chipola River just before 6 p.m. today.

According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicle was northbound on SR 71 but as the driver pulled onto the bridge, she failed to stay in her lane.

The pickup crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left, heading toward the west bridge guard rail.

The left front of the pickup struck the guard rail, which then sent the truck onto the the top of the railing where it traveled north for about 50 feet. The truck then fell off the railing, began overturning and dropped to the ground where it landed on its roof.

The driver, who had been wearing her seat belt, was taken to an area hospital.

This image shows where the railing along the bridge was torn away when the truck went over the side Saturday.
