LIBERTY COUNTY, FL – A truck stolen from a local business was found late Tuesday afternoon bogged down in the mud in the Apalachicola National Forest. The suspect, identified as Cody Haney, is still at large. Tracking dogs were taken to the scene but did not pick up a scent, according to Liberty County Sheriff Buddy Money. He said Haney was last seen around Forest Road 109.
The 22-year-old man broke into a business where he was employed around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, grabbed some keys and then took off with the truck. He left the other vehicle keys behind outside.
Haney had been employed with the company for several months before being arrested on a parole violation after the signal was lost from his ankle monitor. His employer said that when he returned to his job after being released from jail, Haney “was trying and doing very well. I was impressed watching his progress.”
Haney is wanted for grand theft, burglary of a structure and criminal mischief.
He is a white male with brown hair, five feet and eight inches tall and weighs 135 lbs. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 643-2235.
