Judy Lynn Barber

BRISTOL, FL – Judy Barber, 60, of Bristol, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday evening, Sept, 8, 2024.

Survivors include her sister, Janice Watson and husband, David of Quincy; her niece, Jenny Liabenow and husband Brandon of Alexandria, VA; her great-nephew and great-niece Michael and Heidi Liabenow of Alexandria, VA; her Uncle and Aunt Terry and Shirley Segers of Bristol; and her very special friends, Krista Abbott of Tallahassee; John McCoy of Blountstown; and Woody Stewart of Bristol.

Judy was born Sept. 28, 1963 in Miami. She grew up in Miami and graduated from Miami Coral Park Sr. High School in 1981. She moved to West Palm Beach and graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic College with a BS in Psychology in 1986. She did social work in South Florida, Arizona and Colorado before moving to Liberty County to be near family.

She worked many years for the Calhoun and Liberty County Health Departments and with FEMA following Hurricane Michael. She had a special gift for caregiving, and she provided sacrificial end-of-life care for her best friend Larry in 1993, her stepmother Carolyn in 1996, and her mother Elnita in 2022. Most recently she worked as a part-time event planner for the W.T. Neal Civic Center in Blountstown and as a teacher at Liberty Correctional Institution in Bristol.

Judy had an unmatched love for animals and her cats were her life. She is survived by her cats Luna, Armana, Zoe, and Zorin. She is predeceased by her beloved cats: Alonzo, Apollo, Alexis, Annabelle and Akasha. All of her cats were rescues and any cat privileged to be adopted by Judy gained early admittance to living life in cat heaven while still on earth.

Judy was preceded in death by her father and stepmother Johnny and Carolyn Johnson, her mother and step-father Elnita and Tommy Duke, and her nephew Michael Guilford.

Judy’s ashes will be interred at Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown beside her nephew Michael. A memorial gathering to celebrate Judy’s life will be held  Oct, 25  from 4:00-6:00 p.m. CT at the W.T. Neal Civic Center in Blountstown.
