BLOUNTSTOWN, FL – Joyce M. Peacock, a cherished matriarch and esteemed community member, passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2024, in her home, at the age of 83. Born on June 21, 1941, in Marietta, GA, Joyce’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her career, and her community.

Joyce’s early years were spent in the town of her birth, where she graduated from Marietta High School in 1959. She furthered her education at Marsh Business School in Atlanta, GA, completing her studies in 1960. It was during this time that she met and married the love of her life, Gerald Douglas Peacock, embarking on a journey of love and friendship.

In 1967, Joyce embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom with the birth of her first child. Her nurturing spirit and devotion to her family were the cornerstones of her life. The family moved to Blountstown in 1976, where Joyce began working for Ellis Bank of Blountstown. Joyce’s hard work and dedication led her to become the Bank Manager of Nations Bank in Blountstown in 1996. She retired in 2003 from Bank of America after more than three decades of service in banking, later sharing her talents with the Calhoun County public library.

Joyce’s interests and community involvement were as rich and varied as her professional life. She was a devoted member of the Blountstown United Methodist Church and relished the time spent with family and friends. Her commitment to service was evident through her roles in the Chamber of Commerce, where she made history as the first female president in Calhoun County, the Torreya Garden Club, and the Calhoun County Rotary Club. Joyce also played an instrumental role in the City of Blountstown Downtown Revitalization Committee and the Downtown Park Committee.

Joyce’s legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her daughter Kimberly Peacock Jackson (Jay), stepson Dave Mowat (Marlene), and her adored grandchildren, Jake, Jordan, and Layla Jackson. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Gayle Peacock Gallagher and brother-in-law Jerry Peacock. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Albert Marler, Velma Ruth Fraser, and Alton Fraser; her mother and father-in-law, J. Walter and Estelle Peacock; the father of her children and husband of 27 years, Gerald Douglas Peacock; and her daughter, Kelli Peacock.

Joyce M. Peacock’s life was a testament to her strength, love, and commitment to the people and the community she held dear. Her memory will be treasured, and her presence sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Joyce’s indomitable spirit and the impact of her contributions will continue to be felt for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, Joyce’s family asks that you consider donating in honor of their mother to the Emerald Coast Hospice.  She spent her final days enveloped in the tenderness of the staff; and their devotion and sincere attention to Joyce and her family will always be cherished and remembered with sincere gratitude.

Services for Joyce will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, beginning at 2 p.m.  Central Time at the Blountstown United Methodist Church.  Interment will be in Boggs Cemetery immediately following the service.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral, beginning at 1 p.m. Central Time.
