Grand Ridge man
and 3-year-old girl
die in Saturday crash
JACKSON CO., FL – A Saturday evening crash in Jackson County has claimed the life of a 46-year-old Grand Ridge man and a three-year-old girl, who was from Greenwood.
Emergency crews arrived to find the pickup truck the two were traveling in on its side, surrounded by smoke and debris.
According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the pickup truck was westbound on Welcome Church Road around 6:45 p.m. Dec. 28 when the driver failed to negotiate a left curve. The truck ran off the road, went onto the north grass shoulder and collided with a tree.
The impact of the collision sent the truck back into the westbound lane, where it swerved and then overturned on to its right side, facing northeast.
The vehicle caught fire and became engulfed in flames.
The driver and the little girl were declared dead at the scene.
