Bridge collision

EASTPOINT, FL – A 71-year-old Eastpoint man was killed when his pickup truck crossed the center line of the John Gorrie Bridge and collided head-on with an oncoming car at 8:45 a.m. Monday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the driver of the second vehicle – a 64-year-old man, also of Eastpoint –  sustained serious injuries.

Both vehicles come to a stop in the travel lanes of US Hwy. 98 on top of the bridge.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Franklin County EMS assisted FHP at the scene of the Aug. 11 fatal crash.

Trooper seriously

injured in Monday

morning wreck

GADSDEN COUNTY, FL – A Gadsden County FHP Trooper is preparing to undergo surgery for a crushed foot this afternoon at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after he sustained serious injuries when his patrol car was hit by a truck this morning as he was driving through the intersection of Commerce Blvd.

The 36-year-old trooper was traveling westbound on SR 10 (Blue Star Hwy.) before entering the intersection while following a speeder to make a traffic stop shortly before 7 a.m.

A truck, driven by a 61-year-old Bainbridge, GA man, was turning left from SR 10 into the intersection when its right front collided with the left front of the patrol car.

The driver of the truck was not injured.  The truck came to a stop on SR 10, facing west.  The patrol car came to final rest facing north on Commerce Blvd.

FHP was assisted on scene by the Gadsden County Sheriff, EMS, Fire Rescue and the Midway Police Department.

Calhoun man

hurt in fatal

Alabama crash

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, AL – Alabama authorities are investigating a fatal crash that left one woman dead after a head-on collision with a Freightliner box truck driven by a Calhoun County man.

The 1 a.m. crash happened on State Route 21 near mile marker 13 near Atmore, AL on Aug. 5.  The woman’s car caught fire after the crash.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 43-year-old Blountstown man was injured and transported to USA Medical Center in Mobile for treatment.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Truck driver going to

landfill dies after going

down embankment

JACKSON CO., FL – A 64-year-old man driving a tractor-trailer to the Waste Management Springhill Landfill in Campbellton was killed Monday after losing control of his vehicle.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road leading to the landfill, which sent the semi traveling down an embankment at 11:36 a.m.

The semi hit the embankment on the backside of the ravine  and then collided with a tree.

The vehicle came to rest in the ravine against the embankment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
