GRAND RIDGE, FL – A nine-year-old boy was killed and three other children were critically injured when the ATV they were riding drove into the path of an oncoming vehicle traveling on Sandridge Church Road in Grand Ridge Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, the four children were at a residence along 3111 Sandridge Church Road in Grand Ridge when they went out riding.  The fatal collision happened just before 9 p.m.

The nine-year-old Grand Ridge youngster was driving.  His three passengers included a Grand Ridge girl, age 10; a four-year-old Blountstown girl and a nine-year-old boy, also from Blountstown.  All three passengers suffered critical injuries in the Feb. 16 crash.

The ATV was traveling east near the home.  The second vehicle was an SUV driven by a 27-year-old Sneads man who was traveling with a female passenger, 21, of Grand Ridge.

The SUV was southbound on Sandridge Church road in the southbound lane, north of Mary Lane, when the ATV pulled into its path.

According to the FHP investigation, the SUV driver hit his brakes and skidded forward until colliding with the ATV.  The impact ejected all four children.  The ATV and the SUV came to rest straddling both the north and southbound lanes.

The FHP report noted that none of the children were wearing helmets.  Both passengers in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts and escaped injury.
