FLORIDA PANHANDLE – With memories of the destruction left by Hurricane Michael still fresh for all of us in the Florida Panhandle, our two-county area was spared any serious issues when Hurricane Isaias stormed through Friday night and Saturday.
“At this point, we don’t have any damage to homes reported,” Calhoun County Emergency Management Director John Summers said Monday morning.
“We had a few trees down on roadways throughout the night Friday but had it all cleaned up by midmorning Saturday,” he said.
There were no major problems reported from the storm in Liberty County, according to the Liberty County Emergency Management Office, although both counties experienced power outages.
Other counties, however, did not fare so well with substantial damage destroying homes and businesses in Bay County, Escambia County and Leon County. The Category 2 storm briefly turned into a Category 3 hurricane Friday morning with winds of 120 mph. The hurricane made landfall near Destin Friday night with sustained winds of 105 mph.
