BLOUNTSTOWN, FL – A 19-year-old Blountstown man on state probation for a 2023 felony battery conviction is now facing charges of attempted murder with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following an Oct. 15 shooting, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The 21-year-old victim was shot in the neck and taken by emergency helicopter to an area hospital. He identified the shooter as Erik Michael Khani Dixon and said they had been in a heated verbal altercation leading to threats earlier that Thursday evening.

Deputies responded to the reported shooting at an Owens Lane residence in Blountstown around 10:17 p.m.

The victim fled from the home and sought help at a neighboring residence where he received assistance.  He was transported to an area hospital by emergency helicopter.  The injured man is now “in recovery,” according to Calhoun County Sheriff Michael Bryant.

Dixon gave investigators multiple accounts of the incident and later admitted to shooting the victim.  He directed investigators to a site where he said he had hidden the gun used in the shooting.

Three firearms were found concealed in a wooded area near the home. One of the guns, which did not have a serial number, was found with what appeared to be blood smearing and residue. The firearms and other items of evidentiary value were collected as part of the investigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Mobile Crime Laboratory responded to assist with processing the scene and collecting evidence. A projectile believed to be associated with the shooting was recovered from a couch inside the residence.

This remains an active investigation, and additional forensic analysis may be conducted as evidence is processed.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the assistance of the FDLE Mobile Crime Laboratory, Blountstown Police Department, and all personnel who responded to this incident.
