UPDATED JAN 9

GRACEVILLE – As of 4:30 p.m. just over 5,100 West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) members are being impacted by power outages throughout Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington Counties. This number is approximately half of what was out this morning after the storms passed through the area. Crews are making great headway and will continue working throughout the night to repair damage and restore outages.

Here is a breakdown by county:
Calhoun: 12
Holmes: 1,191
Jackson: 2,410
Washington: 1,300

The cooperative anticipates outages to last throughout the night. Please make arrangements accordingly.

There is extensive damage to homes and equipment throughout WFEC’s four-county service area. In addition, the cooperative has found 21 broken poles and damage to the attached equipment. Nine of those are in the Graceville district and the other twelve are in the Sneads district – three of which support major power distribution lines. Each pole will take a minimum of 3-4 hours to replace. The attached equipment must also be repaired, adding to restoration times.

Based on what we know right now, the co-op hopes to have power restored to the majority of its members who can safely receive it by tomorrow afternoon.

————————-

GRACEVILLE – As of 2:00 p.m. Tuesday  just over 7,500 West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) members are being impacted by widespread power outages throughout Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington Counties. This number is down from over 10,500 this morning after the brunt of the storms passed through the area. Crews are making great headway as they continue working to repair damage and restore outages.

Here is a breakdown by county:
Calhoun: 1
Holmes: 2,194
Jackson: 3,322
Washington: 1,971

Due to the extensive nature of the damage caused by this storm, restoration efforts could take considerable time and resources. WFEC has requested the help of additional crews from our statewide office and they will begin arriving later today.

If you see line crews working on the roadside, please move over and slow down for their safety. Please stay away from downed power lines caused by fallen limbs and trees.

Updates will be available through traditional media outlets as well as on the cooperative’s website, Facebook, and Twitter pages.
