In July 21 collision in Fountain

Altha man killed,

passengers left in

critical condition

BAY COUNTY, FL – A  Tuesday morning collision with a semi truck and trailer has taken the life of a 67-year-old Altha man and left his two passengers seriously injured.

The  driver was traveling in a Nissan Frontier on US Hwy. 231 near Harrington Road in Fountain at 9:45 a.m.  His passengers included a seven-year-old girl and a 39-year-old woman, both of Altha.

According to the FHP report, the driver attempted to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 231 without yielding to traffic when he pulled into the path of a northbound International Semi-Truck and trailer.  The front of the semi struck the left side of the Nissan.

The Altha driver was fatally injured and entrapped inside his vehicle.  Deputies with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office attempted to extradite the driver to render first aid but were unable to remove him from the wreckage.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His two passengers were both trauma-alerted to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The tractor-trailer driver is a 55-year-old man man from Fleming Island who had minor injuries.

The occupants in both vehicles were wearing seat belts.

The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is actively investigating this crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and Bay County Emergency Services (Fire Rescue/EMS) at the scene of this crash.
