BAY COUNTY, FL – The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of 35-year-old Justin Varnes and 30-year-old Haeley Olson on multiple Grand Theft charges.
On October 1, 2026, Bay County Sheriff’s Office investigators executed a search warrant at a Bay County residence as part of an ongoing investigation into the theft of packages from FedEx.
The investigation began after multiple customers reported missing or disputed deliveries. Through recorded interviews, in-vehicle surveillance footage, GPS data, and recovered stolen property, investigators determined that Justin Varnes, who was employed as a FedEx delivery driver, had been removing packages from his assigned delivery truck and taking them to his residence.
During an interview, Varnes admitted to stealing packages from his delivery route for approximately one month. The stolen merchandise included air-conditioning units, a 70-inch television, laptops, electric bicycles, an iPhone 18 Pro Max, and other items.
In one instance, Varnes removed a laptop from a customer’s package, replaced it with a bag of popcorn, resealed the package, and documented it as delivered. When the customer confronted Varnes after discovering the popcorn, Varnes reportedly denied working for FedEx, despite being in a FedEx-issued delivery truck and wearing FedEx-issued clothing.
Investigators also determined that Varnes would mark packages as delivered even when the intended merchandise was never delivered. In other cases, he removed the original merchandise and replaced it with other items, including used personal property belonging to him, before resealing and delivering the packages to unsuspecting customers.
Varnes acknowledged that he was aware the FedEx truck was equipped with cameras and GPS tracking but continued taking packages. During the execution of the search warrant, investigators recovered numerous items believed to have been stolen from FedEx, including property that had not yet been reported missing.
Varnes’ girlfriend, Haeley Olson, was also interviewed and acknowledged that Varnes had been bringing numerous packages from his delivery route into their residence. Olson also acknowledged that she and Varnes had benefited from and used the stolen property.
The total estimated value of the stolen property identified during the investigation is approximately $10,000.
Justin Varnes was charged with Grand Theft ($5,000–$10,000) and Ongoing Scheme to Defraud.
Haeley Olson was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Grand Theft ($5,000–$10,000).
This case still remains active and additional charges may be added.
